delta
A word was used as if everyone already knew it. I didn’t. When I asked, they laughed and assumed I’d have a whole chapter about it. I noticed I wasn’t embarrassed. I appreciated the assumption. I just hadn’t used the word that way before.
Someone said “delta” in a meeting,
in the way you say something
when you think everyone already knows what it means.
I didn’t.
For a moment I thought it might be a call sign.
Something operational.
Something you respond to if you’ve been trained.
I asked.
They laughed and said they assumed
I would probably have a whole chapter about it.
I noticed I didn’t feel embarrassed.
If anything, I appreciated the assumption.
I just hadn’t used the word that way before.
The conversation continued.
